Little Squirrel

Little Squirrel

Image result for squirrel running away from a hawk
Early one morning a little squirrel was gathering nuts near the edge of the forest while nearby a hawk was flying high in the sky.

The squirrel sensed something was wrong. He heard a loud squawk in the distance. He looked up, his tail went stiff. He saw danger, it was a silver grey hawk circling in the sky.

The squirrel was anxious. He planted his paws firmly on the ground ready to run. His fur raised like spikes on a cactus as he planted his paws, fear struck him. He went to run away but he was in panic mode.  No idea what to do next.
He looked like he had just had a nightmare. The hawk looked  pretty scary with his golden beak, wide wings, angry eyes and sharp claws like a knife blade. He looked like he was hungry and scavenging for food.
The hawk was flying so high and he was ready to swoop down on the squirrel but the squirrel bolted away into the forest. But… the hawk went in for landing and grabbed the squirrel by the tail he was as fast as lightning.

He was wiggling and jiggling until he fell out of the claws. Then he dash back to grab his nuts before he went  back in the tree. There he watched the hawk fly away into the sun set.

Responding to feedback

It was 11 o'clock, James' granny was going to pick us up. I knew this was going to be the perfect day.
Waiting inside I noticed she had pulled up outside, now she was busy arranging the seats in her car.
It was time to go.

As we drove up James was standing in the driveway. He started walking down to meet us. I jumped out of the car and everyone said. "Hello."
We put our bags down and went to check out the sleep out. The sleep out was like a second house. It had a toilet, bath - a spa bath, a kitchen, living and sleeping spaces.
It was time to go to the skate park. James had the scooter. When we arrived at the skate park i grabbed the scooter and balanced on the rim.  I was thinking about  what  trick I should do. As I went down the ramp I thought about a 180. I could feel the wind rushing past me as I went down the half pipe and up the skid ramp over again. I even pulled a 180 on the way up. It's a trick I had learnt and it was amazing. When we had finished at the skate park we went to the river.

At the river we walked through it to the other side. It was FREEZING. On the other side we climbed up a waterfall. A man arrived with a dog that would not stop barking. It was annoying so we finally went back.

This was the perfect day.

The Perfect Day

I am learning to make my writing more interesting for the reader. I know I will be able to do this when I add more detail, interesting words and include what I see, hear, smell and feel.

Taonga

We have been learning to make connections to the people and places that are important to us.

My Taonga is greenstone.
I have chosen my Taonga because it reminds me of my uncle because he carved it.

The place I connect to is  New Zealand  because i love the bush and the natural the environment

I have been able to make connections to Connor because we have both connected to  Nelson Creek.

My Profile

Hi, my name is Simeon. I'm 10 years old and I go to Paparoa Range School. I am a year 5 and I'm  in room 4 and my teachers name is Mrs McGeever.
I like writing at school because I like going on the computer and I like being on the computer. My other favourite subject is reading because sometimes we read on the computer my favourite foods are KFC, pizza and McDonald's.
At school I have a lot of fun, only sometimes I don't have fun when it is maths. My favourite animal is a cat  because I have a cat at my house. Its name is Moonshine. We named  it Moonshine because she shines like the moon. I like going camping with my family because I like going to Lake Brunner and we camp at Nelson Creek.  This is the first place we camped.

My Favourite Place

I am learning to add more detail to my writing to make it more interesting for the reader.

Nelson Creek

At Nelson Creek I heard the running water, the cicadas and birds.

I smelt the aroma coming form some of  the bbq's.

I heard the sound of the stones crushing as I walked on them and felt the silky sand sinking as I stood in the wind as it howled hooo.

The water swished about while the sticks were snapped as I walked along the edge of the water.

I stopped, I listened, I heard the bridge creaking.

Nelson Creek my favourite place.
